28 Winning Summer Basics From Marks and Spencer, COS, Arket and Weekday

I’m not really someone who tends to have “rules” around what to wear and what not to wear, however, I can’t deny that having a strong foundation of basics has played an integral part in building a long-lasting and versatile wardrobe. While I love a bold print or jazzy dress, I tend to lean heavily on staples, such as T-shirts, jeans and tank tops, during the summer months to form a scaffolding that allows said statement items to truly shine.

In my experience, there are a handful of high street stores that particularly excel in the art of the summer basic—brands that don’t get distracted by a trending trim or overstyled silhouette, rather understand that less is definitely more when it comes to the perfect white shirt or pair of straight leg jeans. Arket, COS, Marks and Spencer and Weekday sit at the top of my priority list for finding these hardworking staples, and considering the minimalist credentials of a number of these brands, it’s probably no surprise that they know how to keep it simple.  First and foremost, Arket is my go-to for a good white tee, and I wear the brand’s crew-neck style at least twice a week. COS is another brand that excels in the art of the perfect tee, something that has also manifested in its T-shirt dresses this season, which I’m promptly adding to my wishlist. Good ‘ol M&S is all about the summer linen, whether you’re looking for shorts, a midi dress or a short-sleeved shirt. And let’s not forget the utilitarian appeal of Weekday, a brand that knows how to deliver clean-lined denim design. So, if you’re looking to update your summer basics this season, scroll down to shop my definitive edit.
