Hannibal and Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen has joined Harrison Ford in James Mangold’s Indiana Jones 5.
Disney and Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones 5 has brought another surprising cast member on board for the new sequel, with Hannibal and Rogue One star Mads Mikkelsen joining Harrison Ford for the upcoming adventure. His addition comes quite soon after the news that Phoebe Waller-Bridge has also been recruited for James Mangold’s fifth film in the fan-favorite franchise.
As per Deadline, Mads Mikkelsen has come aboard the Harrison Ford film before production is expected to begin later this year. James Mangold is also still meeting with various other actors for other Indiana Jones 5 roles, but for the moment it’s not clear who Mikkelsen is playing. It’d be easy to typecast him as a villain, as he’s brilliant at bringing an antagonistic force to the big screen. It was confirmed last year that Mads Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise after Depp’s recent legal troubles.

Full plot details on Indiana Jones 5 are being kept under wraps, but Harrison Ford has revealed that the film will see new developments in the adventurer’s life and relationships in addition to resolving part of his history. The film will mark Lucasfilm’s first entry in the franchise while under the Disney umbrella. John Williams is attached to write the score after having previously lent his talent to the past four chapters of the film series. Steven Spielberg, who directed the previous four installments of the film series, will step out of the director’s chair for the fifth entry, with Logan director James Mangold taking over directorial duties. Solo: A Star Wars Story writer Jonathan Kasdan is penning the script.
