Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse debunk

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse debunkThe producer of the 1994 Spider-Man animated show debunks the rumor that Christopher Daniel Barnes will return for Into the Spider-Verse 2.

With work underway on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 the producer behind the Web-Slinger’s 19984 animated series (which is fondly looked back on by most fans of the hero) has debunked a rumor that Christopher Daniel Barnes is returning to voice Peter Parker in the upcoming sequel. The film will feature new versions of the hero, which most likely includes Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099.

In a lengthy statement posted to the Facebook page for the animated series, executive producer John Semper explained that the rumor is false as he’d spoken to Barnes’ wife about the Spider-Verse 2 situation, and she explained that the voice actor hasn’t been approached to return to the role. It’s not uncommon for stars to deny their roles in highly anticipated projects (hello, Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk) – but the statement seems quite resolute. Take a look below.

“An article was posted here yesterday supposedly having the inside story that Chris Barnes is reprising his role in the sequel to ‘SPIDER-MAN – INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE,’” Semper wrote on the official Facebook page for the hit ’90s toon. “I heard today from Chris’s wife that this is absolutely FALSE. Chris has not been approached by Sony/Marvel to reprise his role as nineties Spider-Man, which means that the Spider-Man from my series will NOT be in this upcoming movie. So spread the word. The rumor is FALSE.”

Do you think the denial is a misdirection? Would you like to see Christopher Daniel Barnes return to voice a version of Peter Parker in Into the Spider-Verse 2? Sound-off in the comments below!
