With the imminent arrival of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, many have wondered what the director thinks about the accusations fired at Joss Whedon for his alleged behavior on the set of the reshoots for the theatrical cut. Cyborg star Ray Fisher has frequently called out the Marvel alum for his abusive actions for quite some time, and Snyder revealed to The New York Times why he wasn’t aware of what was going on at the time. He noted that because of the tragedy in his family life, he knew that the last thing the cast wanted to do was talk to him and complain about it.

“Not at the time. The last thing they wanted to do was call me, complaining about them having a hard time shooting. But in retrospect, do I feel bad that they had to go through that? I do. These guys are my friends, and they’re amazing actors, and they’re strong people. I want them to be taken care of and in a healthy situation. I wasn’t there, so your opinion on it is probably is as good as mine.”

Obviously the changes made to the film for the theatrical cut are now infamous (including that god-awful mustache edit) – but it was Warner Bros.’ insistence of adding more humor into the film which was the first red flag for Zack Snyder. When the director’s cut arrives on HBO Max, it’ll feature more of Snyder’s signature tone alongside an avalanche of new scenes and several new characters. Take a look at Snyder discussing Joss Whedon’s involvement below.

“It was a bit of a red flag. They were like, We think punching up the humor and doing some more fun stuff will be great. I was like, Hmm, I’m happy to shoot a scene if you guys have a good idea. We kicked around a bunch of different writers, and they had come in with Joss. He’s a talented writer, no two ways about it. But I really didn’t see the point. And then when I was like, I’m done, I can’t do this, I feel like they were volunteering Joss as the de facto finisher.”

What do you make of Zack Snyder’s comments?

Here is the official synopsis for the Zack Snyder cut:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is expected to hit WarnerMedia’s HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Joss Whedon and the Zack Snyder Cut, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
