‘WandaVision’ Writer Explains Evan Peters’ Ralph Bohner Reveal

WandaVision Evan Peters Quicksilver Ralph Bohner

WandaVision Evan Peters Quicksilver Ralph BohnerWandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer went into detail about the decision to have Evan Peters play Ralph Bohner in the series after playing Quicksilver in the X-Men films.

Leading up to the WandaVision finale, many fans believed Evan Peters was playing Quicksilver from the X-Men universe since Scarlet Witch is set to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Instead, Peters was really a fake Pietro controlled by Agatha Harkness and just a Westview resident named Ralph Bohner.

It’s safe to say the reveal with Evan Peter’s Ralph Bohner didn’t land for everyone. In a recent conversation with IGN, WandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer explained why they decided to go in the direction that they did:

“First, it was the ‘this is the metaist metashow in the metaverse. It’s just meta, meta, meta, and so it complemented the overall tone and aesthetic of the show in this uber way, so that felt very right and great for the identity of the show…It was really about what’s happening in Wanda’s head and the idea that someone could show up and not look like her brother and that she would accept it. What’s going on with her in terms of her denial, and her self-doubt, and her disorientation that Agatha could trick her in this way?”

Many have likened the Ralph Bohner reveal to the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3, which also left some fans disappointed. Schaeffer added that she hopes no one feels tricked by what they pulled off with Evan Peters in WandaVision:

“I don’t want anyone to feel like a prank was pulled on them. I don’t want anyone to feel tricked and of course, you don’t want people disappointed in things. I would redirect to what the show is really about, and what is meaningful about the show, and what does resonate.”
