Zack Snyder Reveals Why He Added Jared Leto’s Joker In ‘Justice League’

Jared Leto Joker Justice League Zack Snyder Cut

Jared Leto Joker Justice League Zack Snyder CutZack Snyder explained why he brought Jared Leto’s Joker into Justice League after teasing his conflict with Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman.

One of the biggest questions most fans have had about Justice League after the impressive full trailer made its way online – why is Jared Leto’s Joker involved? The villain seemingly didn’t have a role to play in the original plan for the film, so how come he gets to survive into the post-apocalyptic Knightmare timeline? Well according to Zack Snyder himself, it’s so that his version of Batman can finally face-off against one-another.

When speaking to Total Film, Zack Snyder explained that because this was his last chance to play in the sandbox of the DC Extended Universe, he wanted to see Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jared Leto’s Joker finally share the screen together. The director pointed out that he already teased the conflict thanks to a moment in Batman v Superman and a Joker playing card. Take a look at Snyder discussing Leto’s Joker below.

“[Adding the Joker] was a thing I had wanted to do. Because frankly, the ultimate conflict in a universe where Batman exists is for him to confront Joker. I was afraid that if this was the last Justice League with Ben [Affleck’s Batman] and Jared, it would be remiss if I couldn’t figure out a way for them to come into conflict. Also, it was a wish of mine to bring Joker into the continuing storyline. I hinted at it in Batman v Superman – when you see Batman’s gun in the post-apocalyptic world, it has a Joker playing card taped to it. This has a little bit to do with that concept

Are you excited to see Jared Leto’s Joker face-off with Ben Affleck’s Batman in the film? What else do you want to see from Zack Snyder’s Justice League? Sound-off in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for the Snyder Cut:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hit HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Jared Leto’s Joker in the Snyder Cut, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
