‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Showrunner Inspired By ‘Black Panther’

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Black Panther

The showrunner behind The Falcon and The Winter Soldier said the series builds on what Ryan Coogler started with Black Panther.

It’s been three years since audiences were stunned by what Black Panther achieved when it brought  T’Challa and the world of Wakanda to the big screen. But the showrunner on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier says the series will build on the diversity the Ryan Coogler film brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show will seemingly deal with how the U.S. will react to the first Black Captain America with Sam Wilson.

When speaking to TV Line, showrunner Malcolm Spellman praised Black Panther for providing a role model for audiences who hadn’t seen themselves properly represented in a big superhero movie like this before. He went on to say that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is a nice progression from that, saying that Black icons are necessary across the world. Take a look below.

“When you start to see the direct impact that a Black superhero had on my nephew, that’s branded on my brain. I believe that Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a nice progression with the mantle that [Black Panther director Ryan] Coogler and Chadwick [Boseman] left us. I really do believe that these giant Black icons are necessary, not only for Black kids, but for white kids to start to absorb — our people as being big and heroic.”
