Elizabeth Olsen’s WandaVision just introduced two of the Young Avengers into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although it’s not clear how long they’ll be in the series for. After the first trailers teased that Scarlet Witch and Vision would eventually have children, the series has finally introduced Tommy and Billy Maximoff… A.K.A. Wiccan and Speed. Since the pair have had a complicated history in the comics it’ll be interesting to see how WandaVision deals with their existence.

The majority of the episode saw Wanda and Vision attempt to hide the pregnancy from their neighbors, before Scarlet Witch’s contractions cause her abilities to wreak havoc on the neighborhood. Eventually when she gives birth, the two parents call the twins Tommy and Billy. In the comics, Wanda willed them into existence, accidentally using two fragments of Mephisto’s soul to bring them to life, and when another villain reassembles the fragments – the two children are effectively killed. Eventually, they’re reincarnated and become the Young Avengers, Wiccan and Speed. But it’s not yet apparent how (or if) the show will tackle their tricky backstory.
