‘WandaVision’ Director On Monica Rambeau Getting Powers In The Series

Teyonah Parris Monica Rambeau WandaVision

Teyonah Parris Monica Rambeau WandaVisionWandaVision director Matt Shakman talked with us about the possibility of Monica Rambeau receiving her comic book powers in the series.

WandaVision is set to premiere on Disney Plus this Friday and fans couldn’t be more excited. As a result of the ongoing pandemic, we’ve been without a new entry to Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a year now. Black Widow was initially set to launch Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and after numerous delays it won’t hit theaters until May 2021, making WandaVision the beginning of the new phase. WandaVision is an interesting start to Phase 4 with its stylistic approach of the sitcom genre.

The series will also bring back some old characters like Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis from the first two Thor movies and Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp. The series will also reintroduce us to Monica Rambeau from Captain Marvel, who is now an adult, played by Teyonah Parris. We recently got the chance to chat with the director of the series, Matt Shakman, and he opened up on working with Parris as Monica Rambeau.

“Monica Rambeau, we saw in Captain Marvel, obviously as Lieutenant Trouble,”  Shakman told Heroic Hollywood. “And it’s exciting to introduce her adult counterpart played by the amazing Teyonah Parris, who is a brilliant actor and can do anything. She is so funny and such a great dramatic actor”

In the comics, Monica Rambeau is a hero that has gone by many names. She has the ability to move at the speed of sound, can manipulate and transform herself into energy. If you were wondering if she will have these abilities in the MCU, you might be in luck. The director discussed the possibility of seeing the character with powers by the end of season one.

“Monica Rambeau as an adult is not too different than her mom, Maria Rambeau, who we saw in Captain Marvel,” Shakman said. “She’s tough and adventurous and brave. And where she goes is exciting. I don’t want to say too much about it.”

What do you think of Matt Shakman’s comments? Do you think we could see Monica Rambeau suit up by the end of the first season of WandaVision? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!

Here is the official synopsis for WandaVision:

Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

Directed by Matt Shakman with Jac Schaeffer as head writer, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, and Kathryn Hahn in an undisclosed role. Kevin Feige has said that the series will lead into the feature film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
