As the film industry continues to tackle the challenges of theatrical releases during the pandemic, Marvel Studios is reportedly changing its deals with actors, writers, directors and producers in case future films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe release straight to Disney Plus instead of theaters. There’s been much debate recently on whether Black Widow should debut on the streaming service, but the company is adamant that the Scarlett Johansson movie will eventually get a theatrical release.

According to TheWrap, new contract language means that the named talent working for Marvel Studios will receive adjusted compensation if their film is released on Disney Plus. This provides flexibility for all involved if it isn’t possible for an upcoming release to get its typical theatrical debut. The report also notes that the new deals only cover films that haven’t begun production, beginning with Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2.

What do you make of the news? Would you like to see some of the upcoming movies debut directly on Disney Plus? Sound-off in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for WandaVision:

Marvel Studios’ “WandaVision” blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany)—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

Directed by Matt Shakman with Jac Schaeffer as head writer, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, and Kathryn Hahn in an undisclosed role. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that the series will lead into the feature film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

WandaVision is set to premiere January 15, 2021 on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on WandaVision and Marvel Studios and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original content!
