Tom Hiddleston’s ‘Loki’ Has A Surprising Answer To Real-World Hijacking Mystery

Tom Hiddleston Loki Mystery

Tom Hiddleston Loki MysteryThe recently revealed teaser for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki series offered a surprising answer to the mystery behind a real-world hijacking in the 1970s.

The first trailer for Loki revealed a stunning adventure for Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief as he travels through time after his exit from Avengers: Endgame. But the final few moments of the footage tie into a very real mystery that remains unsolved to this day. The Loki trailer shows a very smart, slick looking version of the fan-favorite character onboard an empty plane, which is surrounded by police cars. He’s later handed a chunky bag before leaping out the back of the plane, dollar bills flying out behind him. Luckily, he escapes into a Bifrost beam cast down by his brother, Heimdall. Magic aside, it looks like Marvel Studios is providing their own answer to the very real mysterious disappearance of D.B. Cooper.

In 1971, a smartly dressed hijacker working under the pseudonym ‘Dan Cooper’ threatened to blow up a Boeing 727 – forcing the plane to land so he could extort $200,000 from the airline (as well as demanding a parachute). One of the flight attendants, Tina Mucklowe, brought all the money in and directly handed it over to Cooper. Shortly after the plane took off once again so the hijacker could escape, the remaining members of the crew (who were shut in the cockpit) discovered that one of the doors had been opened mid-flight. Cooper was nowhere to be found. Although the authorities think Cooper died during his escape, a boy later discovered a stash of bank notes underneath the plane’s flight path, but no remains where found.

Fast-forward back to the Loki trailer released at the Disney presentation, and it looks like Marvel has provided its own answer to the mystery… D.B. Cooper was really Loki. The brief shots in and out of the plane definitely seem to match up with the events that happened in 1971. It’s inventive, we’ll give them that. It’ll be interesting to see if Tom Hiddleston’s character manages to weave himself into any other real-world events over the course of the series.
