In late 2016, US diplomats in Cuba started reporting eccentric and alarming episodes within their houses and resort rooms. They talked of piercing or bothersome sounds –buzzes, squeals, or even clicks–which appeared to emerge from a specific direction but were not always dampened if they clasped their hands on their ears. Some described feeling vibrations and pressure, also.
Together with the disturbances arrived a constellation of symptoms: nausea, vomiting, nausea, and headaches, balance issues, ringing in their ears, visual disturbances, nosebleeds, difficulty concentrating and remembering phrases, hearing loss, and address issues.
Considering that the initial 2016 accounts, the cryptic episodes appeared to afflict over 50 US diplomats and their families; greater than 40 at Havana and at the very least a dozen more in the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China. A few CIA officers operating in Russia also have reported similar scenarios.
