Verizon has agreed to deliver FiOS fiber-to-the-home support to a different 500,000 families in new york from July 2023, settling a suit within Verizon’s failure to cable the whole town as needed within a franchise arrangement.

“Today’s settlement will make sure that 500,000 families that already lacked Verizon broadband access due to a corporate collapse to purchase the essential infrastructure is going to have the choice of fiber, and make crucial price competition in locations where now just 1 supplier is present,” NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office stated in an statement a week. New york sued Verizon at March 2017, stating the firm failed to finish a citywide fiber rollout from 2014 as needed in its own cable-TV franchise arrangement. In the time the suit has been filed, Verizon said it had attracted its fiber system into 2.2 million of NYC’s 3.1 million households.
