‘The Mandalorian’ Features ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’ Easter Egg

The Mandalorian Star Wars The Phantom Menace

The Mandalorian Star Wars The Phantom MenaceWhile fans were focused on the return of Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian season 2, the premiere featured a surprising Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Easter egg.

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 2.

If the first episode of The Mandalorian season 2 is anything to go by, there’s going to be plenty more references to the films that came before the Disney Plus series. After Din Djarin meets Cobb Vanth on Tatooine (who has an interesting connection to another legendary Star Wars character) the two go off on a journey to kill a Krayt Dragon. Unfortunately, it’s not exactly close to the small mining town of Mos Pelgo – so Vanth and Djarin speed across the desert to find it.

But while everyone’s favorite bounty hunter was using a small speeder bike, Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth seemed to be using an engine built by Anakin Skywalker for the Boonta Eve Podrace in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. If it isn’t the same engine, then it’s remarkably similar in its design, either way it’s an obvious Easter egg to the first prequel film. It seems likely when other characters begin to show up, we’ll see even more references to the wider Star Wars universe. Take a look at The Phantom Menace Easter egg in the images below.
