Before this month, Seagate declared an 18TB entrance in its Ironwolf Expert lineup. Western Digital replied Wednesday dawn with 18TB variations of its Red Guru and Purple consumer-targeted lines. The brand newest 18TB Red Guru and Purple compels follow the business’s original 18TB CMR driveway, a Gold launched at mid-July.
The two NAS (Network Attached Storage) pushes –Seagate’s Ironwolf Guru and Western Digital’s Red Guru –are CMR pushes rather than the performance-problematic SMR tech. Western Digital’s statement of this 18TB Purple didn’t cite either SMR or even CMR in any respect, that we have to assume means it’s an SMR drive.
Seagate’s 18TB Ironwolf Guru is available for purchasing at select retailers currently for $580 retail, however real stock is not anticipated until mid-October. Western 18TB Gold pushes are available today for 593 ; the 18TB Red Guru and Purple pushes are anticipated sometime in October but no costs are announced yet.
