Three days prior to a ban on the usage of China-owned program WeChat in the USA will have effect, the Trump government still has not stated what specifically has been prohibited –just that people won’t be penalized with the program, regardless of the alleged hazard that it poses to national safety.

Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross does”not mean to take action that could aim groups or persons whose sole link with WeChat is their own downloading or use of their program to communicate personal or company data between consumers, or {} the applicable transactions in this way that could impose civil or criminal liability on these users,” lawyers at the Department of Justice wrote in a court filing (PDF).

Consumers of WeChat might come across solutions”directly or indirectly diminished” by whatever steps the government will end up regretting the filing lasted, but”downloading and use of this program with this limited function won’t be a specified trade.”
