This Beloved Pizza Chain Just Added a Controversial Topping To Its Menu

This Beloved Pizza Chain Just Added a Controversial Topping To Its MenuFew debates are as heated (regarding pizza, that is) as the one over whether or not pineapple should be put on top of a pizza and Papa John's just made it very clear which side the brand stands on. Thanks to a new partnership with Dole Packaged Foods, Papa John's just introduced an all-new pizza flavor: The Super Hawaiian Pizza. "At Papa John's we believe that pineapple belongs on pizza," said Paul Fabre, SVP of Product Innovation at Papa John's said in a statement. "Partnering with Dole makes sense because there is nothing more important or vital to our business and to earning our customers' trust than providing high-quality food. This starts with how we source our ingredients, including DOLE pineapple, which brings a rich sweetness to our pies."The new menu item couldn't have come at a better time, seeing as the pizza chain has been doing incredibly well during the pandemic, posting record-breaking sales in both March and April. The chain started the year off strong by introducing the popular Papadia, which is a hybrid of a flatbread pizza and a sandwich, as well as the Shaquille O'Neal-branded Shaq-a-Roni pizza (think of an extra-large pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni). Now, the chain continues to ride that momentum with its new Super Hawaiian Pizza. The question is, will your aversion to fruit on pizza cause you to miss out on trying this brand new menu item, or can you dig deep and at least give it a try?One thing's for certain, if you're in the mood for a pizza that strikes the perfect balance between sweet and savory, you'll have a new go-to order at Papa John's.For more, check out 15 Classic American Desserts That Deserve a Comeback.
