Aiming to reach as wide an audience as possible, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, has talked to journalists, medical groups and even actors to spread the word about how to prevent coronavirus. This week, he talked with Girls Trip and The Last OG star Tiffany Haddish, and the results were entertaining and informative. Read on to see what he said, and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus.1 You Can Catch and Spread the Virus Just By Talking—and Singing!"It's a respiratory-borne virus," said Fauci. "So it is transmitted from one person to another, by very microscopic respiratory secretions. And this is important that I think people don't understand that certainly could be from coughing or sneezing—but it could even be from talking because what we're seeing now—and singing even more than talking. And that's the reason why you saw all those people in the church, in the choir who got infected. So the way you prevent that is by what we keep talking about is a mask and physical distancing. Because if you stay a certain distance away and avoid crowds, yeah."2 Dr. Fauci Said How to Keep Your Immune System Healthy"You know, to be honest with you, Tiffany, the things that so-called 'boost the immune system,' when you do really good clinical studies, it doesn't really help much unless you have some sort of a deficiency. Like if you're vitamin D deficient, you just work hard all the time, you don't get outside. Then taking vitamin D is good. If you want an antioxidant, Vitamin C, but a lot of these herbs that claim to boost your immune system in so many respects, either do nothing, or if you take too much of them, they harm you. The best way to keep your immune system good is to just lead a healthy life, get good sleep, exercise. Those are the things that are so much better than a bunch of herbs that really have never really been shown to do that."3 Dr. Fauci Said We Need to Protect the Vulnerable"We really need to make sure with vaccines and even with therapy that we protect the people who are vulnerable," he said. "This is a virus that is very confusing because of all the viruses that I've ever had experienced with over the last 40 plus years, I've never seen a virus that has such a range of 40% of the people don't even know they're infected. They're completely without symptoms. Some have minor symptoms. They don't even miss work, but they should go home not to protect, to protect others. Others get symptoms that they go to home for few days, others are in bed for weeks and it takes a while to recover, some go in the hospital, some go in intensive care, some need ventilators and some die. So it's amazing. How are you going to have the same virus does nothing to many people, usually young people, but can kill other people?"RELATED: COVID Mistakes You Should Never Make4 Dr. Fauci Said You Could Infect Someone And 'They Might Die'"The reason that's important is that that creates a sort of a kind of schizophrenia. When people where they say, wait a minute, why am I worried about a virus? If I'm 25 years old? And if I get infected, the likelihood is I'm not even going to get any symptoms. So I want to go into a bar and I want to do this. And I want to do that. That's a real problem, Tiffany. And it's a problem because even though you may not get any symptoms, the likelihood is that even without symptoms, you could transmit it to someone else who could then transmit it to someone else who then is going to make someone's father, mother, grandmother, wife, who has got chemotherapy for breast cancer, an immune deficient child, someone who's got obesity, they're going to get very sick and they might die. So we've got to impress upon people that you not only have a responsibility to yourself because some young people really, really get very sick from this. But the most important thing is you have the societal responsibility not to be propagating the outbreak to be part of the solution, not the problem."5 On How African-American and Latinx Communities Are Hit Hardest"One of the things as important as, as usual with health, minorities, particularly African-Americans, Latinx, and others, not only do they have a greater chance of getting infected because they usually—not always, it's dangerous to generalize— but people know they usually have jobs that don't allow them to talk to a computer they're out in the front lines, doing the manual jobs that require interaction with people. So they have the first, a greater risk. Then when you look at the African-American and Latinx population, they have through decades of social determinants of health, working against them, they have a much greater likelihood of having the underlying conditions. So African-Americans are getting hit with a double whammy, including Latinx. Not only do they get more likely of infection, but they get more likely of a serious outcome. And that's the reason why I was saying before, we want to make sure we get them in the vaccine trials to prove that the vaccine works in them and that it's safe in them."6 Dr. Fauci Said Tiffany is 'Not Completely Protected' Haddish said she tested positive for coronavirus but then was found to have no antibodies. "Your antibodies are gone because they probably had a very short half life," said Fauci. "But what I can tell you almost for sure, Tiffany, is that you have some residual immunity, probably T cells that are being able to protect you. But the one thing it does say, and please do this—that we don't know yet. So you should still not assume Tiffany that you are completely protected. So you've got to, when you go out…six feet away from everybody. But if you go to crowds, you know, no crowds, wear your mask, you know, six feet distance, wash your hands as frequently as you possibly can. Outdoors is always better than indoors. Cause we know when this virus with these little microparticles, when you're out there, as they get blown around and they get diluted, when you're indoors, they get recirculated. And that's what you got to worry about."7 How to Avoid COVID-19No matter where you live, do as Fauci says: wear a face mask, social distance, wash your hands frequently, avoid crowds and to get through this pandemic at your healthiest, don't miss these 35 Places You're Most Likely to Catch Coronavirus.
