An anonymous Warner Bros. executive says the studio was shocked at how bad Joss Whedon’s Justice League was.
In Vanity Fair’s recent extensive feature looking at the full story behind Justice League, an anonymous Warner Bros. executive revealed that the studio really wasn’t impressed by Joss Whedon’s theatrical version of the film. Originally, the director was brought on for some rewrites on Justice League, with Zack Snyder explaining “I thought maybe he could write some cool scenes. I thought that would be fun.” But Warner Bros. quickly put him in the director’s chair following Snyder’s family tragedy.
While the feature also revealed a new look at the film, it also highlighted the specific moments Warner Bros. were displeased with. The anonymous executive called the experience “stupefying” and called out the opening scene with Batman confronting a thief on a rooftop as well as the bizarre focus on a Russian family in the final act. Take a look below.
“When we got to see what Joss actually did, it was stupefying. The robber on the rooftop—so goofy and awful. The Russian family—so useless and pointless. Everyone knew it. It was so awkward because nobody wanted to admit what a piece of sh*t it was.”
What do you make of the Warner Bros. executive’s words? Are you surprised they were that shocked by Joss Whedon’s cut of the film? Sound-off in the comments below!
Here is the official synopsis for the Zack Snyder cut:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
