When it comes to celebrity style, it’s easy to jump straight into conversations about red carpet looks and directional Instagram posts of avant-garde outfits. But the truth is the stars love their jeans just as much as we do. Thank goodness for that because they inadvertently provide a mountain of inspiration on how to style them the moment they step out on the streets.
Lately, in place of high heels, I’ve noticed that some of my favourite fashion-proficient celebs have been wearing jeans exclusively with flat shoes, and I want in. I’m not big into trainers, so I’m always on the lookout for flat-footwear solutions to wear with my denim, and it just so happens that Kendall Jenner, Katie Holmes and Zoë Kravitz (to name a few) have been exploring this combination in recent weeks.
So which flat shoes have celebrities been wearing with their jeans? Instead of telling you, let me show you. Scroll on to see eight foolproof celebrity jeans-and-flat-shoes outfits I want to copy immediately. Something tells me you’ll want to too.
Style Notes: Kendall Jenner has been wearing up some stellar flat shoes of late—The North Face slippers, anyone?—but her pairing of Khaite jeans and classic Boston clogs from Birkenstock might be my favourite combination of hers yet.
This features the same palette as Kendall’s knit.
She’s been wearing Khaite’s Danielle jeans on repeat.
A classic.
Style Notes: Every day, I wake up and ask myself, “How can I dress more like Zoë Kravtiz?” Turns out all I need is a pair of cropped black vintage-wash jeans and some timeless penny loafers.
A handful of our editors already own this Sézane jacket.
Such a good shape.
Shoes you’ll come to rely on.
Style Notes: Katie Holmes continues her impressive street style streak with this simple but highly effective combination of true blue jeans in a slightly oversized silhouette, which she’s finished with a polished pair of horse-bit loafers.
Isn’t this gorgeous?
Wide-leg jeans are still trending.
Many fashion people will tell you these are a wise investment.
Style Notes: Elsa Hosk continually serves up some of the best street style looks in the biz. This get-up, featuring an oversize blazer, cream jeans and now-trending short Uggs, is one of my all-time favourites.
The texture of this blazer is truly beautiful.
These cult jeans come in so many versatile colours.
If cosy is what you look for in shoes, you can do no better.
Style Notes: On the subject of blazers, let’s segue to Hailey Bieber, who, as someone who used to wear more than her fair share of sky-high heels, has been showing flats some serious love over the past few months. This look, featuring a pair of Dr. Martens brogues and high-waist baggy jeans? Inspired!
This has long been on my wish list.
Just the right amount of distressing.
If they’re good enough for Hailey, they’re certainly good enough for me.
Style Notes: Make like Tessa Thompson, and tap into 2022’s wildfire baggy jeans trend with another It buy: a pair of flat cowboy boots. The sharper the toe on those bad boys, the better.
I’m always drawn to fluffy knits.
Slouchy jeans = maximum comfort.
These look so premium.
Style Notes: I’m going to make a bold claim: I’ve never seen a bad Dakota Johnson outfit. And here she is, proving my point with her barrel-leg jeans and stacked loafers. Thanks for that, Dakota!
Free people is my go-to for vintage-looking cover-ups.
I hear excellent things about Lucy & Yak denim.
Chunky but still sleek? Impressive, Russell & Bromley.
Style Notes: When she’s not dressed head to toe in Chanel, Kristen Stewart likes to keep things elevated but low-key. This look, featuring flat Mary Janes, turned-up jeans and a striped shirt, concisely sums up her style.
Snap up the matching trousers for a cute co-ordinated look.
We need not remind you of our love for M&S denim.
Made to be worn with white socks.
