MGM’s Motion Picture Group President Paula Abdy has commented on who will become the next James Bond after Daniel Craig’s 007 retired in No Time To Die.
It’s hardly a surprise that one of the biggest commercial hits of the year was Daniel Craig’s final outing as 007: No Time To Die. The James Bond film has grossed over $750 million at the box office and is still filling up seats worldwide. Audiences showed up in droves when it was confirmed via the film’s marketing that this would be Craig’s final outing as 007, a character he’s played for nearly two decades.
Now that No Time To Die has succeeded as the ceremonious end to Daniel Craig’s five-picture stint as James Bond, all eyes are on who will replace him. Fan speculation aside, there haven’t been any concrete details or hints from the brass over at MGM, who has been a part of the 007 franchise since its cinematic inception via United Artists, one of its many subsidiaries.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MGM exec Paula Abdy commented on Daniel Craig’s replacement, maintaining the same sentiments the franchise’s producers expressed earlier this year.
“It’s wide open. We’ve had very early preliminary conversations with Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [Wilson], but we wanted Daniel to have his last hurrah.”
Well, it looks like things are being kept under wraps over at MGM. No Time To Die is still a valuable, albeit less exciting play at the box office and it wouldn’t make sense to undermine the film’s performance with a casting announcement. Besides, the James Bond project is still fresh in the minds of audiences, so it might be best to space out any announcement.
Here is the plot synopsis for No Time To Die:
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, David Dencik, and Dali Benssalah.
