A new concept image shows Emilia Clarke replacing Amber Heard as Mera for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom wielding Arthur’s trident.
When Aquaman was released back in 2018, it genuinely surprised audiences and critics with how entertaining it was. While the film’s critical reception was a bit divisive, it nonetheless managed to earn over $1.1B worldwide. A sequel and a number of spinoffs were quickly put into development.
In the film, Amber Heard portrayed the undersea princess Mera. The daughter of Dolph Lundgren’s King Nereus, the character acted as a guide for Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry in his adventures under the sea. The actress’s ongoing legal battles with former husband Johnny Depp, however, have soured some audiences members on the actress and some have wanted to see her replaced, with Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke mentioned as a potential replacement.
In a post, digital artist Valentin Romero shared a concept image of Emilia Clarke as Mera for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. Most notably, the character is holding the trident that Aquaman obtained in the previous film. You can see the full image below:
