The MCU debuted the first look at Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk series during Disney Plus Day.
One of the most anticipated projects coming out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has to be Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk series. Details on the Marvel series have been surprisingly slim, though we do know that show will focus on Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who possesses the same Hulking powers as her cousin Bruce Banner.
Tim Roth, who previously portrayed Abomination in The Incredible Hulk and this year’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been roped in to return to the role once again. Joining Roth as the series’ other big bad is The Good Place‘s Jameela Jamil, who makes her MCU debut as Titania, a direct foe of Walters’.
The first look at the series, which comes from Marvel Studios’ 2021 Disney+ Day Special, introduced Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters as well as the upcoming adventures she’ll have to participate in as She-Hulk.
The tease begins with Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters doing yoga at her home and then cuts to her walking in an office as she say’s “I’m Jennifer Walters, I’m a normal lawyer. Well, not that normal.” The footage then cuts to a shot of Maslany as She-Hulk landing on the ground, wearing training pants and runners. We don’t get a full shot of Maslany as She-Hulk from the front, but it’s the perfect tease to get us excited for her solo series.
The sequence then cuts to Jennifer Walters in a clear chamber of sorts, with a helmet on her head that presumably tracks her neurons. Outside of the clear box is Mark Ruffalo’s Professor Hulk, who tells her cousin that “These transformations are triggered by anger and fear.” The clip then ends with the aspect ratio changing, and the footage being given a crisp 70s shot on film look. Maslany and Ruffalo stand atop a rooftop in 70s clothes, with different, era-authentic hairdos, as Walters says the iconic line: “Don’t get me angry, you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” Additional footage at the end of the sizzle reel shows Jennifer Walters’s legs as She-Hulk wearing a dress and stepping onto a red carpet of sorts.
Marvel Studios also released a brand new logo for the upcoming series.
The MCU series will consist of ten episodes and debut later next year. It’s unclear at this junction if the series will follow the likes of Loki and spawn a second season, or if it’ll be a miniseries in the same vein as WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Disney Plus Day brought with it tons of first looks at some of the MCU’s most exciting projects. The Marvel universe is set to expand widely now that characters like She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight are making their debut. It’s safe to say the future of Marvel Studios looks brighter than ever.
She-Hulk stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Jameela Jamil as Titania, and Tim Roth as the Abomination. The series will debut on Disney Plus in 2022.
