New stylistic promo art for The Batman puts the focus on Paul Dano’s terrifying Riddler.
The Batman is one of the most exciting projects DC has coming out of its pipeline. Starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, the film is set to be a darker, more gritty take on the hero, with director Matt Reeves placing a direct emphasis on the character’s psychological struggles. From what we’ve heard and seen, Reeves’ vision for The Batman is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
Though the film features Selina Kyle, Oswald Cobblepot, and Carmine Falcone, it appears that the project’s main villain is Paul Dano’s The Riddler. Little is known about this version of The Riddler, though his knack for leaving clues and taunting Batman has been directly lifted from crime thrillers like Se7en.
A brand new batch of promotional art teases Paul Dano’s sinister Riddler, as well as giving us a brand new series of looks at the Caped Crusader himself.
The first image implies that Riddler and The Dark Knight are connected, almost as if they’re one side of the same coin. The words etched into the question mark imply that Batman himself is partially responsible for Edward Nygma becoming The Riddler. Perhaps Riddler believes he’s the anthesis of Batman, the necessary opposing force that Gotham needs? The other images put the focus on Batman himself, with the most interesting one showing Batman’s cowl serving as a collage for various newspaper clippings calling out the hero.
Here’s the synopsis for the Robert Pattinson film:
“THE BATMAN is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting.”
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
