‘Eternals’: Marvel Studios’ New Film Almost Featured Vampiro As A Member

Marvel Studios’ new film Eternals almost featured Vampiro as part of the main ensemble.

Eternals brings one of the most unique groups of characters ever featured in a Marvel Studios film. Comprised of 10 members, the titular group is brought to life by a diverse cast with unique abilities. Interestingly enough, another obscure character almost made the cut.

While speaking to Deadline, screenwriters Ryan and Kaz Firpo revealed that there were some characters that they wanted to bring into the story, but was ultimately cut out. In particular, Vampiro was previously involved:

“There were two Eternals that we loved dearly. They made it to the cutting room floor. We were given a binder when we first started this process. Ryan and I just sat down and flipped through the pages and picked the ones who we thought could best reflect the world, whose powers were the most interesting and compelling, and that really was our journey.

[A dozen is] a nice number, and so they were kind of pushing that,. And we were saying ‘That’s quite a lot of people that we’ve never met before.’ They were like, ‘Let’s try it,’ and so we did it for one draft, and the very first thing they were like ‘Okay, let’s only have ten.’ One of them was Vampiro, who was a favorite of producer Nate Moore.”

Created by Roy Thomas and Arvell Jones, Vampiro in the comics has super strength, can fly and is skilled at wrestling. He also has fangs, similar to that of a vampire. Although the character does not appear in Chloe Zhao’s film, it would be interesting to see him brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe sometime in the future.

Here is the synopsis for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals:

“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”

Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals is now in theaters. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the future of Marvel Studios and the potential future of Vampiro, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
