Kevin Feige held a top-secret meeting with fellow Marvel Studios execs to stop The Amazing Spider-Man 3 from entering production.
The recently released The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a tell-all book that chronicles the history of the MCU. Filled with secrets and interviews from the behind-the-scenes happenings of the MCU, the behemoth book has received the seal of approval from Marvel Studios. One of the recent revelations from the book is that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige tried to stop Sony from moving forward with The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was met with mediocre reception and didn’t make the biggest splash at the box office. Despite the film being a disappointment, Sony was set to start working on a sequel until those plans were dropped to reboot the franchise with Tom Holland in the lead. Sony head Amy Pascal was set to meet with Kevin Feige to get his thoughts on The Amazing Spider-Man 3, as he had done for the previous two films.
Before that meeting, however, The book reveals that Kevin Feige and various other Marvel Studios execs held a secret meeting to stop The Amazing Spider-Man 3 from manifesting in favor of a complete reboot that would be folded into the existing MCU.
“With no time to spare, Feige announced an ‘all hands on deck’ situation: Every executive producer at Marvel Studios had to be part of a secret, two-day long, off-site retreat, held in a rented hotel space in Santa Monica. No one else at Marvel Studios was told about what they were doing, just that it was a ‘get-together.’ In that closed room, two questions were posed: If there were an opportunity to broker some kind of deal with Sony, how would it work? And if they leveraged something like a five-picture deal, what stories would they want to tell?”
Clearly, that secret meeting paid off as Spider-Man was folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe shortly after in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Since then, Spidey has gotten his own trilogy within the franchise, with the third coming out later this winter.
Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina.
No Way Home is currently set to be released on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
