New still from Spider-Man: No Way Home shows a suited-up Tom Holland alongside Doctor Strange and MJ.
Each day that passes is one day closer to Spider-Man: No Way Home. The upcoming Tom Holland-led threequel is set to be a live-action take on the Spider-verse concept, bringing in villains and heroes from previous Spider-Man films. The first trailer for the film hinted at Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, and explicitly showed a de-aged Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus.
At the center of the film is Doctor Strange, who (inadvertently) helps open up the multiverse, which causes all the villains from previous films to be folded in. It’s unclear just how long of a role Benedict Cumberbatch has as the good doctor, but his character is set to be at the core of the film. To tease the esteemed sorcerer, EW unveiled a brand new still of Doctor Strange overlooking a suited-up Tom Holland.
The outlet also revealed a still of Tom Holland getting some airtime with MJ, who is sporting a hilarious face of terror. The scene that the still teases likely comes after Peter Parker’s identity is revealed and he’s fleeing the scene.
Tom Holland also revealed to the outlet that Spider-Man: No Way Home has been envisioned as the end of the MCU Spider-Man trilogy which began with 2017’s Homecoming.
“We were all treating [No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let’s say, I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”
It remains to be seen just how much of a conclusive ending No Way Home feels like as Holland is young enough to portray the character for years. Plus, fans still have the Venom and Spider-Man crossover to look forward to, so while No Way Home may be the end of the trilogy, it certainly won’t be the last we see of Tom Holland suited up as Spidey.
Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina.
