As someone who is super fortunate to receive new beauty launches on a weekly basis among makeup and skincare products that TikTok somehow always convinces me to buy, I still love nothing more than turning to social media for makeup inspo. Whether it be a lipstick that easily takes my look from day to night, a concealer to brighten up my under-eyes after a restless night or even a blush to add a pop of colour to my cheeks, I want all the recommendations.
This year is definitely proving harder than usual with the UK weather giving us all four seasons in just a matter of hours, but slowly but surely, it’s beginning to feel like autumn thanks to cosy evenings, an influx of pumpkin-inspired makeup products and all the talk of Christmas (despite it still being weeks away).
When it comes to autumn makeup, all looks are on the cards for me. Nothing is ever too much in my opinion, even a vampy lip or something more colourful. Recently, I’ve become obsessed with saving the makeup looks that have given me major autumnal vibes on Instagram.
The looks I’ve saved can be easily replicated whether you’re short on time or not. Keep scrolling for a countdown of the top 10 makeup looks that I want to embrace over the next few months.
Wearing a colourful eye shadow is my go-to no matter the weather. Whether you want to add something shimmery to the lids or just a simple matte shade, it’s a great way to create an effortless look. Purple is one of the most universally flattering colours on every skin tone. Pair your standout eyes with a simple sweep of blush and something glossy on your lips to really complete the look.
The no-makeup makeup look is so timeless and is one that you can do so much with. Personally, this trend becomes my favourite to create when I’m seeking a fresh-faced glow. There are numerous products available that are the perfect match for all complexions. I tend to stick with a brown or brownish pink on my lips to create the “your lips but better” look and then go in with a blush that has a bit of a glow to it on my cheeks and across my eyes. Multi-use products are the perfect contender for this, as they require minimal effort and are easy to use on the go.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Coloured liner is one of the best trends to come out of 2021. Perhaps it’s easy for me to make that kind of statement, as coloured liners are my thing, but as I mentioned in the previous two makeup looks, it’s one of those looks that people will think took you ages when, in fact, it couldn’t be any easier. Most of my favourite coloured liners range from £3 to £10 and have so much lasting power. Throw something balmy with a bit of colour on your lips to really add to the complete look.
A ’90s brown lip is more of an all-year-round staple, but I find myself gravitating to it more during autumn. Whether it’s a matte, sheen or satin finish, there are options for everyone. One take on the trend I’ve loved seeing over the past few months is lining your lips with a brown liner and then going in with a brown gloss. I simply can’t get enough of it!
While we’re currently not in the summer months, it’s always nice to give an ode to your favourite summery colours in the form of a makeup look. This green look is one that I’ll be re-creating for sure. It’s a look that can also easily be reinterpreted during Halloween and Christmas.
You can’t possibly go wrong with winged liner, whether you want a classic cat eye, a simple flick or a dramatic double flick, which TikTok introduced me to. With so many eyeliner colours to choose from, the difficult part is picking the colour rather than the actual application.
I’ve become completely obsessed with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lipstick in the shade Medium. It’s the ultimate warm berry-pink shade and has fast become the lipstick I reach for on a daily basis. It’s a shade I think will suit everyone, especially those with darker skin tones.
What would autumnal makeup looks be without a vampy lip? It’s a shade that you can wear whenever you like, but there’s something about keeping vampy, berry-toned colours for the colder months that really excites me. Even if you decide to match your vampy lip with just mascara, it always comes together perfectly. Plus, it’s a look that you’ll just want to keep coming back to.
When I think of French autumnal makeup looks, my mind instantly thinks of a classic berry shade. Again, it’s a shade you can’t possibly go wrong with and that looks great whether applied to your lips, eyes or cheeks.
Finally, an autumn look isn’t complete without a peachy pop. It can be worn for all occasions, including when you’re doing something fancy or because you feel like it. It’s great at giving a healthy and natural flush to the skin, and with there being so many different forms of the shade—from sun-kissed to dark—it couldn’t be easier to find your perfect peach!
