With Zack Snyder’s Justice League on the horizon, many fans are understandably excited to see the new footage shot for the new version of the movie. In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment Joe Manganiello opened up about returning to play Deathstroke again as well as the plans for Ben Affleck’s Batman movie. But he also explained that he saw the return as a chance to bring new elements to the character which he wanted to explore in the solo movie originally planned for the villain. The star confessed that he hopes the new appearance will reinvigorate the fan passion for the character, so that a solo film will finally go into production.

“Hopefully this will reinvigorate interest from the fans as far as wanting to see this version of the character get told. We landed on an origin story that everyone I’ve ever pitched it to has gone crazy for. There’s been so many versions of this character over the years, and I just wanted to put my own stink on him.”

Clearly, Joe Manganiello has a huge affinity for Deathstroke and wants an extended opportunity to see what makes him tick. It’s something he touched on when reprising the role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, saying that his version of Slade Wilson assumes he’s going to die at any moment. The star even explained the reasoning behind the wild mohawk, calling it a “war-like” look. Hopefully a Deathstroke project is one of the things he’s currently working on with Zack Snyder.

“Some of those elements I snuck into this round. The greatest warriors are the ones who walk into battle already dead or assuming that they’re going to die — they’re looking for someone who could actually kill them. There’s almost an excitement around that, like ‘Is today going to be the day?’ So there was a climatic moment in my standalone story where I wanted Slade to shave his head into this war-like Mohawk knowing that he was going off to his own death. I said to Zack, ‘I always envisioned him with a big white Mohawk,’ and he was totally down for it.”
