Michael Giacchino Shares ‘The Batman’ Original Score Snippet In New Video

Michael Giacchino shared a video from a recording session teasing his original score for The Batman.

Academy Award-winner Michael Giacchino is the latest composer to bring their own take on a theme for the Caped Crusader. With the upcoming film The Batman, he continues his collaborative relationship with writer/director Matt Reeves, having worked with him on every one of his films since Cloverfield all the way up to War for the Planet of the Apes.

We first got a tease at Michael Giacchino’s original score for The Batman when Matt Reeves shared the first screen test of Robert Pattinson wearing the Batsuit. The video teased that the theme has an ominous tone, hinting at the terrifying presence that this young Batman will bring to the criminals of Gotham City. We also got another tease of the score in the first official teaser trailer, which was also mashed up with Nirvana’s “Something in the Way.”

Now, Michael Giacchino shared a video from a recording session with an orchestra, featuring a snippet from the theme. The motif is the same as we have heard previously, but the layout this time around brings something truly incredible to life. You just have to hear it:

Happy #BatmanDay everyone!! We have been hard at work and can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to!! @mattreevesLA #DCFanDome #TheBatman @TheBatman pic.twitter.com/BGyiOSxdaa

Wow. Just from hearing this small snippet, the little details of Michael Giacchino’s score really hit home. Obviously, the epic orchestral swells harken back to Batman: The Animated Series, but it is the use of the ominous timpani drums at the end that really bring this home. The movie already looked like it was shaping up to be something special, and this score is yet another example of that. For the time being, it looks like we will hear more in the upcoming trailer that’s likely to debut at DC FanDome next month.

The plot of The Batman is being kept under lock and key, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the upcoming DC film and Michael Giacchino’s score, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
