From the desk of J.B. Chimpanski.
The battle between those Aliens and the Imagined Order has come to an explosive end. In its wake a new conflict has taken shape… a cubed shape, specifically. The destruction of the Alien Mothership has released the Cubes that were powering it, and these Cubes pose an even greater threat to the Island than those Aliens could. While they may not look like a typical villain, I assure you these Cubes are filled with malice.
Everyone on the Island must step up and do their part, or else it’ll be overcome by the corruption the Cubes have caused. Pro-Alien? Pro-IO? Those differences don’t matter anymore. You all have to come together and heed my instruction…
Enter the Sideways… If You Dare
Never heard of the Sideways? That’s for good reason. The Sideways is a dark, malevolent reality filled with terrifying monsters. The Island’s new Cube guests have been spreading portals called “Sideway Anomalies” that connect our world to the Sideways. In the Sideways, gravity is low, and the atmosphere is not ideal for building.
The Sideways is beginning to invade our world too. Each match, some POIs will be affected by the Sideways, turning it into a Sideways Zone. Entering the Sideways Anomalies and Zones may be a dangerous endeavor… but what if I told you there may be some serious benefits to that risk?
Power Up with Sideways Weapons
After entering a Sideways Anomaly, you will face hordes of the monsters I talked about (“Cube Monsters”). Slaying these vicious foes will reward you with Sideways weapons, as well as Cube Monster Parts that you can use to upgrade your Sideways weapons.
(In Sideways Zones, monsters don’t fight in waves, and Sideways weapons can be found as loot.)
You must be thinking that Sideways weapons must be pretty special if they come from a different reality. Well, you think correct. The Sideways Rifle and Sideways Minigun will deal bonus damage after you rev them up to their superpowered state!
The Island Needs Your Input!
As I mentioned earlier, the Island needs help from all of us if we want to save it. What can you do to help? You and the community can donate Bars you have earned to construction sites where you want to see Turret Stations built. Later down the road, the community’s help will also be needed to decide weapons, both new and old, to bring into the battle.
Tools of War
Not everything needs Bars to scrap together. I’ll also be rolling out new and returning tricks on the house. For example, I’ve managed to pull out the ever reliable Automatic Sniper Rifle and Harpoon Gun.
Also, you can still use Nuts & Bolts to upgrade your weapon to a style that suits you best. For example, you can craft the Lever Action Shotgun into the Charge Shotgun or the Assault Rifle into the Suppressed Assault Rifle. These weapons are powerful, but be on the lookout for even more additions to the arsenal.
Cubic Conquest
At least for now, the Cubes are located around the destroyed wreckages of the Mothership. Shockingly, some of the Mothership’s technology still works. In fact, its anti-grav tunnels can transport groups around in loops.
Shadow Stones can be found scattered amongst the rubble. Believe it or not, consuming one of these strange objects will temporarily turn you into a shadow-like spirit, allowing you to be obscured from your opponents. It seems these Shadow Stones have fallen into some of the waters, as there’ve been reports of Shadow Floppers being caught.
One last thing about the Cubes. We have noticed a special Golden one. The other Cubes seem to look up to it as some sort of leader. We best keep our eyes on that one.
Get to Work on the Punch Cards
Residents on the Island have Punch Cards full of missions they need your help with. Dark Jonesy would like your help in discovering what is going on inside the Kevolution facility, and Charlotte needs a hand in investigating the IO. Over the weeks, more residents will ask for your assistance in discovering some of the hidden secrets on the Island.
Running through Quests is always better with a squad, so round up your party and get to moving! Party Quests can be picked up by chatting with Island residents and interacting with Phone Booths. They will also appear in your daily log. Don’t worry, everyone is awarded for their good deeds: Party Quests give Bars to everyone who helps out.
You must be wondering: “Why are you getting involved in all of this?” I can choose to ignore it, but I don’t want to see you all crushed by a Cubic victory. So don’t let me down here!
