DOOM was just the start.
Hackers have wasted no time with the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch – discovering its secrets before it was even officially released. Within just weeks, one talented individual known as ‘stacksmashing‘ dug into the system’s code and worked out how to get id Software’s classic first-person shooter DOOM up and running.
While the results weren’t exactly pretty, it was only just the beginning. The same hacker – once again, with the help of fellow coder Konrad Beckmann – has now got some more retro classics up and running like the original Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Contra.
