Deadpool 2 star Josh Brolin has opened up about a potential return as Cable.
It was always a bit hilarious how Josh Brolin starred in two 2018 Marvel tentpoles as a villain. Brolin played the Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and the time-traveling maniac Cable in Deadpool 2. Brolin later reprised his role as Thanos in Endgame, but it was always unclear if he would return in the Deadpool franchise, especially after Fox (who produced Deadpool) was purchased by Disney.
With the Deadpool franchise now under the command of Marvel Studios, it’s hard to imagine Josh Brolin returning as Cable considering the actor is canonically Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a virtual spotlight panel at ACE Universe, Brolin opened up about working on Deadpool 2 and how he’s uncertain about Cable’s future within the MCU.
“Deadpool worked out very much in my favor. Deadpool was supposed to be four movies. Maybe there’ll be more — I don’t know what Marvel has in store — but it turned out to be one really fun movie for me.”
Kevin Feige recently revealed that Ryan Reynolds is hard at work on Deadpool 3, meaning production on the film is farther along than we think. Knowing Reynolds’ humor, it’s certain that he’ll point out once again how Josh Brolin was in both cinematic franchises. Who knows, Brolin might even return as a cameo?
Here is the official synopsis for Deadpool 2:
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
Directed by David Leitch from a script written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds, the film stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand, and Jack Kesy.
