A new action figure for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman gives us our first look at a black and red batsuit.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the most anticipated films coming out of DC’s upcoming slate. Set to be a darker, more detective-driven Batman story, the film is set to hit cinemas early next year. The DC project boasts an insane cast that would make any indie head faint. With Robert Pattinson set to star as Bruce Wayne, Reeves has roped in Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. Details on the film have been slim but a new look at an action figure might just suggest that Pattinson will be rocking multiple batsuits.
Todd McFarlane of McFarlane Toys – one of the finest purveyors of pop culture collectibles – shared a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s office. In doing so, he revealed the first look at Robert Pattinson’s black and red batsuit. It’s unclear if McFarlane’s reveal was accidental or on purpose.
A roadmap of McFarlane Toys’ products for The Batman also made its way online, implying that this particular bastuit variant is expected to go on sale shortly after the film’s release.
It’s unclear if the black and red batsuit is an actual suit that Robert Pattinson will be wearing in the film or if it’s just an aesthetical variant. The Batman‘s promotional materials have heavily leaned into black and red so it wouldn’t be surprising if the action figure was nothing more than just a variant figure. Fans have pointed out that the action figure bears a striking resemblance to Jim Lee’s FanDome poster. Only time will tell if Pattinson will be seen donning the slick black and red suit.
The plot of The Batman is being kept under lock and key, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.
