Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is hitting digital and physical storefronts sooner than expected.
The long-awaited Black Widow solo film hit theatres earlier this month and racked up positive reviews all around. The film was praised for its inventive and intimate insight into the life story of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, as well as the performances of David Harbour and Florence Pugh. The first film Marvel released since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the filming opened to a pandemic record-breaking $80 million domestically and $78 million internationally. However, the longevity of the film was threatened due to Marvel’s decision to release the film day and date on Disney Plus via Premier Access, which allowed fans to watch the film at home for $30 USD.
Since the opening weekend of July 9th, the film has struggled to maintain its number one reign at the box office, with films like Space Jam: A New Legacy and Old taking its spot, respectively. Currently, the film has gotten a cool $319 million worldwide and could potentially cross $400 million but those numbers seem doubtful considering the film is on its way to digital storefronts and store shelves very soon. It hasn’t even been a month since Black Widow hit cinemas worldwide but Disney and Marvel have already announced the release dates for when fans can rent or purchase the Scarlett Johansson film.
The Scarlett Johansson solo film will hit digital storefronts for rent and purchase on August 10. The film will then hit 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 14th, less than 2 weeks after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits cinemas.
Marvel’s BLACK WIDOW hits digital Aug 10, and 4k Ultra HD, Blu-ray & DVD on Sept 14.
