A genetic form of this pandemic coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, located in mink has spread by the critters to 12 individuals in Denmark,” the prime minister stated in a press conference Wednesday. The government is currently likely to cull all of the mink on brand new farms, that can be estimated to have between 15 and 17 million of their critters.
“It’s very, very severe,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated, based on this Associated Press.
It is thus far unsure how a genetic variant found in contaminated mink may actually affect people. Researchers that monitor genetic variants in SARS-CoV-2 haven’t seen information about the mink breed and cautioned people to not be too worried .
