Loki director and executive producer Kate Herron says she won’t be returning for season 2.
Loki ended on a game-changing event earlier this week that will forever send shockwaves throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the multiverse now open, Loki is set to go in any number of directions, leaving the future wide open. While the possibilities are endless for the Marvel series, the road has come to a close for Kate Herron, who single-handedly directed the first season. In a disappointing bit of news, Kate Herron revealed that she has no plans to tackle the future of the God of Mischief.
Speaking with Deadline, Kate Herron – who also executive produced the show alongside star Tom Hiddleston and Marvel architect Kevin Feige – says she won’t be returning to the series for its second outing. She revealed that she only wanted to be with the studio for the first season and briefly hinted that the show getting a second season was a recent development.
“I’m not returning. I always planned to be just on for this and to be honest, season 2 wasn’t in the — that’s something that just came out and I’m so excited. I’m really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I’m proud of what we did here and I’ve given it my all. I’m working on some other stuff yet to be announced.”
The outlet continued by asking Herron if she’d be interested in creating another Marvel project down the road.
“No, I’m just focused on my own stuff at the moment. I love Marvel and I’d love to work with them again, but my outing with Loki is what I’ve done with them.”
