John Boyega recently talked about what Colin Trevorrow had planned for Finn in his version of Star Wars: Episode IX before J.J. Abrams took over the project.
The Star Wars sequel trilogy is now wrapped up and more stories continue to come out about the making of the first trilogy from Disney. John Boyega has been vocal about how Finn’s story was handled. In The Rise of Skywalker, it’s implied that Finn is force sensitive, but not much else is explored with that storyline. Before J.J. Abrams stepped in to direct Episode IX, Colin Trevorrow was on board and a few versions and details from his version of Episode IX have leaked since The Rise of Skywalker was released.
One of the things that has surfaced from Colin Trevorrow’s Star Wars: Episode IX is concept art and one piece in particular sees John Boyega’s Finn leading a stormtrooper rebellion. Finn’s storyline kind of went that way in The Rise of Skywalker, but it wasn’t as fully realized as what Trevorrow had planned with Duel of the Fates. During a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Boyega shared his thoughts on the concept art that leaked from Trevorrow’s unmade Episode IX and what the director had planned:
“I think Colin Trevorrow was going to tell that story. That image of Finn with the blue flag, and you have the AT-ATs lined up with tribal marks, and the stormtroopers take off their helmets. That would have been sick! That would have been dope, man, hands down.”
When asked if he would like to return to Star Wars to do that storyline for Finn, John Boyega had this to say:
“I’m a Mandalorian fan, so Lucasfilm is doing very well with the TV shows. An animated show would be dope! We could do it from home.”
