The Suicide Squad director James Gunn hints that it might not have been Henry Cavill’s Superman who was shot by Bloodsport.
On Tuesday, we got a brand-new trailer for The Suicide Squad, and in it, we learned that Idris Elba’s Bloodsport put Superman in the ICU after shooting him with a kryptonite bullet. Unfortunately, some online took it the wrong way and didn’t see that happening to Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. James Gunn later shared on social media that he took that reference directly from the comics.
Henry Cavill’s future as Superman in the DC Extended Universe is uncertain, with a reboot in the works that will cast a new actor in the role. It’s been reported that the next Superman movie will not be tied to the DC Extended Universe, but nothing is confirmed. While going over The Suicide Squad trailer with IGN, James Gunn shared that he isn’t sure which Superman took the bullet from Bloodsport:
“So yes, Bloodsport is in prison for uh, putting Superman into the ICU with a kryptonite bullet. Yes, The Suicide Squad is a part of the DCEU, but uh, I don’t know which Superman it was because I don’t cast the next Superman. So uh, it could be Henry [Cavill], it could be somebody else. It’s whoever people decide on other than me.”
Which Superman do you think it was? Was it Henry Cavill? Comment below!
You can check out the synopsis for The Suicide Squad below:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
