Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will have its world premiere at the 78th Venice Film Festival.
For the last couple of weeks, the rumor that Dune would make its debut at the Venice Film Festival was gestating, and now it has been confirmed to be true. The film will be screened out of competition on September 3rd, a full month before its theatrical release. Dune has been one of the most anticipated films in recent memory thanks to its strong, diverse cast and storied legacy as a sci-fi property. The film is expected to adapt the first part of the book, and if Dune is the success that many want it to be, then it’s highly likely a sequel will be made. The film will also release day and date on HBO Max, despite rumors suggesting otherwise.
To celebrate the film’s confirmed premiere at the Venice Film Festival, a new photo has been released, showing off much of the main cast. The new photo shows Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, and Timothee Chalamet broodingly staring into the distance.

A synopsis of Dune reads as follows:
Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, Dune stars Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
