The Beauty and the Beast prequel series starring Josh Gad and Luke Evans is moving forward at Disney Plus.
Last summer it was announced that a Beauty and the Beast prequel series focusing on Josh Gad’s LeFou and Luke Evan’s Gaston was in the works at Disney Plus. Details remained slim at the time but it was announced today that the series is moving forward with both stars returning to their beloved roles. Simply titled Beauty and the Beast at the moment (previously titled The Little Town), the eight-episode limited series will be a musical with all-new, original songs. Joining Gad and Evans is Briana Middleton, who will be playing LeFou’s step-sister in a pivotal role.
Josh Gad will also be lending his writing talents to the series as well, alongside Once Upon A Time scribes Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Tony award-nominated director Liesl Tommy will be directing the first episode and executive producing the Beauty and the Beast prequel series. The Luke Evans and Gad-led series will begin production sometime in 2022, meaning we’re still a few ways away from the series debuting on Disney Plus.

Set in the iconic kingdom of Beauty and the Beast years before the Beast and Belle’s epic romance, the series will follow Gaston and LeFou as they set off with LeFou’s step-sister, Tilly, after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the unlikely trio off on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbors many secrets.
