Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor has admitted that it was The Mandalorian that got him back into the Star Wars franchise.
Star Wars fans have feverishly debated the quality of the franchise’s various films for decades. There are two things within the franchise, however, that most fans will agree on. The first is that Ewan McGregor was perfect as the younger version of Obi-Wan Kenobi and that The Mandalorian was a fantastic Star Wars series. Now, McGregor has admitted that the show series is what got him back into the franchise.
When Solo: A Star Wars Story underperformed at the box office back in 2018, Disney and Lucasfilm opted to cancel and/or convert several of its planned franchise solo films into television series and movies company’s streaming service, Disney Plus. The most notable of these was a planned Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film that is currently being filmed as a miniseries. But, as it turned out, it took the first of the Star Wars Disney Plus series to really get the show’s star back into the franchise.
During a recent Actors on Actors interview with Variety, Ewan McGregor spoke to The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal and admitted how much he enjoyed the show:
“It pulled me back into the Star Wars world, The Mandalorian series, in a way I didn’t expect. It blew me away how much I loved it.”
Later on, he provided a bit of an update on the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and had nothing but praise for how they were shooting the miniseries:
“I just came directly from our set on the Kenobi series, and I’m working with so many of your crew from The Mandalorian. In fact, Deborah Chow is directing all of our series, and I know she directed episodes of your first season. I’m having such an amazing time down there with that incredible technology, and not being in front of too much green screen and blue screen.”
