Tom Hiddleston reveals how he approached playing the Loki from The Avengers after the events of Avengers: Infinity War in the upcoming Disney+ series.
Marvel Studios has another hit on their hands with their new Loki series on Disney Plus. Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as the God of Mischief but with a twist– he’s not the same character that died at hands of Thanos during Avengers: Infinity War. This version of Loki is the one we were introduced to during the events of the first Avengers film who was shown escaping with the tesseract during Avengers: Endgame.
The evolution of Loki has progressed from villain to an anti-hero and we were wondering how did Hiddleston revert back into the mindset of the 2012 version of the character. During the junket for the upcoming Disney+ series I got the chance to talk with Tom Hiddleston and he revealed his feelings on just that.
“It was almost a kind of time travel for myself, because I had to unstitch the evolution that Loki has progressed through, through The Dark World, Ragnarok and Infinity War, go back to how he felt at the end of the first Avengers movie and then take him off in a new direction,” Hiddleston told Heroic Hollywood. “But what’s really interesting is I knew the audience would know more about Loki than Loki. That’s a really interesting dramatic tension in a story, is the audience have all the cards, in a way and Loki is the one playing catch up.”
The actor went on to describe his approach at reentering the past version of the role. “The strange thing is… I have performed the entirety of that character arc. So even I’m carrying the memory of doing those scenes in myself. So even though he hasn’t been through it, I’ve been through it,” Hiddleston said. “It’s really interesting kind of. There’s a lot going on. I wonder what was going through the different aspects of my brain at the time of doing that stuff in episode one without spoiling it.”
