A live-action movie centered on the Space Mountain roller coaster is being developed by Disney with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Army of the Dead writer Joby Harold
Disney is no stranger to making films based on their iconic roller coasters. The most notable include Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, and most recently, Tomorrowland. Disney is now looking to capitalize on the Space Mansion ride that is located at several Disney parks, but was first built in 1975 at Walt Disney World in Florida.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a film based on Space Mountain is now in the works from Disney and is intended to be a theatrical release. The project has also brought on Joby Harold who will produce with his wife, Tory Tunnell, under their Safehouse Pictures banner. Harold is currently involved with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi series, wrote Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and has served as an executive producer on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will also be producing the Space Mountain pic after being involved with the recent live-action Aladdin remake.
