William Jackson Harper is interested in playing Superman in the upcoming DC reboot.
Just a few short weeks ago it was announced that Warner Bros. and DC would be rebooting Superman, with J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates helming the project. The search is underway for both a director and lead star. While there have been many names thrown out throughout the years, one of the most inspired choices for a new Superman has to be William Jackson Harper, best known as playing Chidi in The Good Place.
In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel to promote Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad, William Jackson Harper was asked about being fan cast as Superman for the upcoming DC reboot. Harper responded enthusiastically, saying he’d be game to take on the role of Superman.
“It definitely blindsided me, I was doing another interview and this guy was like, ‘Yeah, this got 55,000 likes,’ and I was like, ‘What? Why? Who knows me?’ But that would be dope. That would be the best thing that could happen to me, to be able to play Superman. I don’t want to do the diet and the exercise.”
Ironically, one of the directors in the running for the DC project is Barry Jenkins who William Jackson Harper just worked with on The Underground Railroad. It would be amazing to see both the director and actor return for a new Superman film.
Superman was last seen in Justice League, here is the synopsis:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is expected to hit WarnerMedia’s HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
