HBO announced production on their upcoming House of the Dragon Game of Thrones prequel series has begun.
Several Game of Thrones spin-offs are in the works as HBO moves forward with the first series ending two years ago. The Tales of Dunk and Egg, an animated series, and three other spin-offs are all in development at HBO with even more potentially on the way. The first series coming is House of the Dragon, which will explore the Targaryen line hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones.
We’ve heard plenty of exciting casting announcements for House of the Dragon leading up to production with names like Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Rhys Ifans. On Monday, HBO revealed production on House of the Dragon is finally underway with the series set for a 2022 release. You can check out the behind-the-scenes photos from the show’s table read below.

Here is the synopsis for House of the Dragon:
Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the series will tell the story of House Targaryen (a.k.a. the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Miguel Sapochnik will serve as the showrunner with Martin and Ryan Condal. House of the Dragon stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
