Tom Hiddleston recently teased that there are many selves of his titular character in Marvel Studios’ Loki series.
There’s still a while to wait until Loki finally arrives on Disney Plus, but Tom Hiddleston isn’t afraid of teasing Marvel fans with what’s ahead for the God of Mischief in the cosmic series. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Loki star pointed out that the logo for the show might have more to do with the story than fans originally realized. Hiddleston joins the dots by connecting the changing fonts in the logo to the fact that Loki is a quintessential shapeshifter.
“I want to preserve the freshness of the show for when it emerges, but something to think about is the [show’s] logo, which seems to refresh and restore. The font of how Loki is spelled out seems to keep changing shape. Loki is the quintessential shapeshifter. His mercurial nature is that you don’t know whether, across the MCU, he’s a hero or a villain or an anti-hero. You don’t know whether you can trust him. He literally and physically changes shape into an Asgardian guard, or into Captain America repeatedly. Thor talks about how he could change into a snake.”
Since the show will deal with alternate timelines and time-travel itself, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see numerous different versions of Tom Hiddleston’s trickster God. He even says as much in a later quote in the Empire interview, explaining that the show is about integrating the disparate fragments of the many selves that he can be. Now, that could obviously just be a way of saying that the actor is unpacking Loki’s personality, but it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s also a double-sided tease. After all, there’s been plenty speculation that Sophia Di Martino is playing the female version of the character. Take a look below.
“I think that shapeshifting logo might give you an idea that Loki, the show, is about identity, and about integrating the disparate fragments of the many selves that he can be, and perhaps the many selves that we are. I thought it was very exciting because I’ve always found Loki a very complex construct. Who is this character who can wear so many masks, and changes shape, and seems to change his external feeling on a sixpence?”
