A new design sees Spider-Man and The Lighthouse star Willem Dafoe get bloody as the Joker for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.
He’s no stranger to playing twisted, intimidating characters but a new design pictures Willem Dafoe as the iconic Clown Prince of Crime to taunt Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader in The Batman. Rumors have swirled since last year that Matt Reeves is planning to use the classic villain in a future sequel to the film, but there’s been no word on whether he’s made progress with ideas for a second film or not. But that’s hardly surprising since The Batman was hit by delays and problems throughout production because of the ongoing pandemic.
The new design of Willem Dafoe as the Joker comes from ‘ryans.reviews’ on Instagram and takes its cues from Frank Miller’s classic storyline, The Dark Knight Returns, which saw Batman hurl a batarang into Joker’s eye after killing numerous civilians. There’s no denying that Dafoe has the range to pull off a role like the Joker, and it’d be fascinating to see what he’d do with the role opposite Robert Pattinson in the grimy new version of Gotham City that we briefly saw in the first trailer for The Batman. Take a look at Willem Dafoe in the role below.

The plot of The Batman is being kept under wraps, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The Batman will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the Joker, Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
