Simon Yates held away a final-stage struggle from Geraint Thomas to acquire against the eight-day Tirreno-Adriatico race Monday and put up himself among the favorites to its Giro d’Italia. At the finishing 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) individual time trial, Thomas ended 22 seconds before Yates but that was not sufficient for its 2018 Tour de France winner to conquer the 39-second shortage he started the afternoon with. Yatesa British riders using the Mitchelton-Scott staff who acquired the 2018 Spanish Vuelta, completed 17 minutes before Thomas from the general standings.
