New concept art from Zack Snyder’s Justice League puts the spotlight on Darkseid.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League features the feature film debut of Darkseid, with the iconic DC Comics villain making several brief but memorable appearances throughout the four-hour superhero flick. Recently, Justice League concept artist Jerad S.Marantz shared some of his work for the film, giving fans a fresh look at the younger version of Darkseid who makes an appearance in its “History Lesson” sequence.
Jerad S.Marantz took to his official Instagram page to post two images that show off his Darkseid design for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The artist revealed that designing Darkseid was a “dream come true moment” for his career and mentioned that he worked on the concept alongside costume designer Michael Wilkinson. Check out the artwork below.
Darkseid almost played a larger role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and subsequent DC Extended Universe films. However, after Joss Whedon assumed directorial duties during post-production and oversaw extensive re-shoots for Justice League, Darkseid was removed from the theatrical cut and Warner Bros. reassessed their plans for future DCEU films following the underwhelming reviews and box office gross of the film. Snyder’s original 5 movie-arc for the DCEU was also said to include events like the murder of Lois Lane and of half the Justice League, with Darkseid taking control of the heartbroken Superman with the Anti-Life Equation.
Here is the official synopsis for the Zack Snyder cut:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
